Problem Changing notification

my droid seems to be stuck on a certain notification sound, the default sound "soft". When i go to change the sound for my notification if i select any other sound as my new notification sound when i do get a notification like a text its still the sound under "soft" no matter what i pick. Any idea on how to fix it ?
