Problem creating wallpapers out of photos

One of my phone addictions is changing my wallpaper all the time with new photos I come across on the web. I just use Chrome to Phone, save to my gallery and then set it. But with my previous phones, it was easy to crop, you just expanded the box to the full size of the photo (assuming the right aspect ratio) and you are good to go.

But ICS seems to be different. It has this odd + shape cropping tool and I can't ever get it set to the full photo, it always ends up with just a section of the picture. Am I doing something wrong?

I think it depends on the size of the photo as opposed to the screen's dimensions. I think I had a pic or 2 that fit the screen right, but most get cropped.

I'm trying to find what the correct dimensions should be. My Thunderbolt had screen dimension of 480x800 and the wallpapers that fit correctly were 960x800. So with that reasoning, I would assume the Nexus screen which is 720x1280 would require wallpapers that are 1440x1280 for the perfect fit.
