So I'm talking on the phone and the screen goes blank to save battery life.. when I tap the screen..nothing..still black and I have not hung up yet.

If I try and hit the power button, it comes on for a second and goes black again. Eventually I can get the screen back and hang up.

If I take the battery out and put it back in..it seem sto help for while but then does it again..any ideas?

Make sure nothing is near the earpiece (Hand, Finger etc) as the proximity sensor will turn the screen off.

Anything blocking the sensor? IE: dirt or poor screen protector? Facial grease perhaps?

Been doing some more testing this morning..definately some issues:

No matter what you set the screen timeout on (15 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes or Never turn off) when you go into the phone mode, it automatically turns off after 15 seconds or so.

When I'm on a call, I have been able to hit the power button today and get a steady menu to be able to hang up the phone or push the numbers (the screen stays on)

Weird, but if I run my finger just across the power button some times, the screen will come back on. (not consistent though)

The proximity sensor is on the top left of the phone (near where it says "HTC"). If there is anything covering that part of the phone while you're in a call, the screen will be off. You need to make sure there is nothing covering the phone on the top left and you shouldn't have the problem.

Edit, I can see exactly where the sensor is...it is just underneath the left side of the metal grill for the ear piece.

I have this same problem. I was wondering if the proximity sensor is sensing the phone close to my face, or a heat change when the phone is close to my face. I'm in Alabama and the outside temperature is 90 when it's cool in the morning ;)

When I'm in the car I've noticed it won't turn back on. Today I stuck in in front of the air conditioning vent and it came back to life.

In my air conditioned office, it's not a problem. Comes right back on when I move the phone away, so for me it might be environment related.
