Problem Opening Email Attachments

I have a AT&T Galaxy S2 Skyrocket and downloaded ICS last week. ow I am unable to open email attachments, i.e. word, jpg, pdf, etc. When I download the file, it's a .dat file, and I have no app to open it. Does anyone know how to have my files recognized to be opened?

I have had the same problem since upgrading to ICS nearly two months ago. No email attachment will open but they would before the upgrade.

What are you using for email, the Gmail app?

Have you tried clearing cache/data/etc. for the app you are using for email?

I dont really use the GMail app. I have two yahoo accounts and my work account. All of those accounts were able to open attachments before I upgraded to ICS. I did clear everything I could think of other than server settings (I dont know what that means)
