Problem with home, back, multitask buttons

Hello all. I have recently been having a problem with my HTC one m8. When I press the home button it makes the screen go black, the back button does nothing, but the multitask still works and if I press it twice back to back then it will bring me to my home screen. It is quite strange and incredibly annoying. I've tried to restart multiple times but nothing I have tried can fix it. Any thoughts? Thank you.

I've never heard of that issue and would say your best bet would be to factory reset and see if that fixes it. You may have some app (or remnants of one) screwing with them. They are built into the android OS so a factory reset should fix it.

Do what Poseign said. It's obviously not normal. Just do a factory reset and if that doesn't fix it, return it.
