After the last two updates, I am having problems receiving texts.
I get something saying "download", but when I click on it it will not download and I get an error message.
I have restarted my phone (S21 5G) several times and still download doesn't work.
After a few hours I go back in, hit download, and, voila, it downloads and there is the message.
NEVER had this problem before. It's the regular text app that comes with the phone.
Any idea what is going on?

Re: S21 G5 texting problems

I downloaded the Google messaging app, can't say I like it, can change sound for just the app. Group messaging doesn't work; it just keeps trying and then tells me there is a problem sending and to try again...., which also doesn't work!

Any other texting apps recommendations??

Similar issue started randomly popping up for me over the last week or two. Yesterday it was especially bad and I have no idea why. I was in the house with strong WiFi as well as a strong data connection. The little download box appeared and tapping on it would cause the appearance of trying to load, but would stop without completing. Once, twice and a third try might actually load the message, which was only text, not a photo. A couple of times I rebooted the phone and the message would download, but then it would happen again a couple of hours later. These are threads that I have never had an issue with.

Behavior with group texts (MMS) also began to act odd with an individual sending a message to a thread including only 6 or 7 recipients. Their message will appear in a thread I have with the individual, not with the group text. Tapping on the download message downloads the text, but into the group thread. I have to close the individual one and reopen the group thread.

Very odd and annoying. I recall a similar issue last summer when Sprint/TMobile was having network issues and group texts would behave the same for days. Then it just stopped and went back to normal on its own. However, I don't recall experiencing the issue with individual text threads, only the group texts.

Thanks! It is mainly with the group texting. But has done it with the odd single text... I'm with AT&T. Guess I will wait and see if it stops by itself.
What texting app are you using?

Just tried it with WiFi off, and that worked perfectly.....

Re-installed the Google messaging app.
I turned wifi off, it worked. Turned wifi back on and it worked...... Will just see what will happen in the next few day.

Using the Samsung app that came with the phone

That one came with adverts on my phone, so I deleted..., think I either got it back or I downloaded something close to it.
I am switching between the two apps - google texting app and samsung (or something similar) texting app. Can't make up my mind which I like better.

My sister was having issues sending texts after her update to Android 12. She is on AT&T as well. I'll check her settings to make sure they're right.

I have never seen an ad in the texting app.

You can change the notification sound for each person in the Google messaging app. Go into the conversation, hit the 3 dots in top right corner, hit details, notifications and then sound

That website is up to date? My sister's phone says IPv4/IPv6. Also, is there a way to delete the old one after she created a new one, as the old one wouldn't allow her to edit it.

It says at the bottom that it was updated on 11/21/21.

I'm not sure about deleting the old APN, since it can vary with the device. It'd help to see a screenshot of the APN menu. She could always try long-pressing the APN that's not desired and see if there's an option to delete it.

I'll try to get you a picture of the APN screen. I think she tried to long press and nothing happened. The 3 dots on the upper right give her the option to discard, but nothing actually happens.
