I had this thing within 500MB of the internal capacity less than a month after purchasing it.

I've limped it along until now. It has gotten to where it will not update apps due to insufficient space.
Things I've noted:
It will NEVER compute internal storage space Under Settings/Storage. Perpetually says calculating.
It will not Delete my apps. It says uninstalling and displays the blue pulsating progress bar. The screen will time out and nothing will have happened.
I don't know how to force google play music to cache to SD so that it isnt using my internal phone storage. I may have to go back and look at this again as it could very well be a setting. I do know that the app will not clear data. It is consuming 2.03GB of space. Not sure where.

In addition to those 3, I almost can't live with the fact that my widget data is tied to the SD card and it kills my widgets after every phone power cycle. Thanks moto.

I hate to sound so negative. I have been pleased with the phone since upgrading from my Atrix 4G other than the internal storage issues.

Thanks for any help.

As usual my epiphany while typing worked. I killed cache locally in google play music and I now have alomst 3 gigs of space freed up.

I've actually been having the same issue. When I first got the phone it kept crashing and rebooting. figured out it was a faulty SD card swapped it out now that's not happening.

But since ICS we have not been able to save apps to SD so the only thing the SD is good for to the general user is photo and video storage. Notice I don't say music. That is because Google play music since ICS also does not allow for music storage on SD, its only stores via internal memory so i f you have a decent amount of songs like you and I. We have to pick what we want on the device otherwise stream the rest which I know is not ideal.

Now onto the app updates claiming insufficient storage, which sometimes can be the case with those big data games etc. I get that as well. What I think is happening here is that when updating an app it is downloading the update like your adding the program all over again so if you have little internal space available it will say that. now I know that sometimes when I get that insufficient message that I am sure I have enough space. I then clear the cache. That tends to work along with uninstall and reinstall as the updated version or power cycle the device and immediately after boot go into the play store and update. it seems to do the trick.

Now onto the widget issue. I also have the same problem. On my end the issue is with Google now decided to no longer speak to me in certain searches that used to and one day it just decided that everything I would ask it, it would just do a Google search like per Google now. How I resolved that. Uninstall and reinstall. All my data was saved via gmail acct so I didn't lose anything. Also I use swift key instead of the stick keyboard. I've been using it since day 1 on this phone. But now recently within last 2 weeks or so every time I power cycle the phone it reverts back to the stock keyboard. I've had to reset up swift key every time and I make sure its set as default. I've even tried the uninstall and reinstall but that did not work. And on top of that I use light flow and for whatever reason even after you clear all notifications, once you shut the screen off the notification light continues to blink. The only way to stop that was with the light flow widget that reset notifications. Every time I power cycle, the widget just disappears. I have no idea what causes this and its only started happening within the past few weeks.

I've tried footing the phone too and I'm pretty good at it and when it come to the point point to to a hard reboot by holding down power and volume up it gets stuck there every time.

I have the same issues, and I've been scouring the forums to find out what to do. I figure I would reply to this post so that it at least bumps the topic to the top.

For me, I'm having the same issues not being able to update a lot of apps doe to insufficient storage. When I look in the settings, it starts out showing the bar graph being totally gray and everything underneath that is calculating. Once it calculates everything, it shows that apps, pictures/videos, audio, and downloads total 2.2GB, but shows that I only have 497MB available. Where's the rest of my storage (which is 8GB)? I understand that a few GB's are used for the ROM, but I still don't get where the rest is. And if I really only have 497MB available, isn't that enough to update an app that is 30MB?

As for the widgets resetting everytime the phones reboots, that drives me crazy. I mush prefer ADW Launcher or Nova Launcher to stock, but got sick of putting all the widgets back on. So I've learned to live with the stock launcher, but that is BS. I've read that it has to do with the version of Android we're on, and Google's response is that an upgrade to 4.2 is needed. I doubt Moto is going to give us that, so it sounds like custom ROMs are the only choice.

I'm rooted, but completely stock.

Any suggestions on what to do to free up my internal storage would be appreciated.

Clean master actually fixed several of my issues. I found it on motos forums. Its worth a try. The biggest hassle that it corrected was the ability for me to remove apps. The status bar would just hang. Now those actions just tick along like clockwork

I have Clean Master already, so didn't do it for me.

What I ended up finding is that all the backups from Titanium Backup were being saved to me internal memory and not the CD Card. Therefore, there was an additional 2GB in data that I was able to take off the internal memory. Solved my immediate problems for now.
I think I'm going to figure out how to change the ROM on this thing. From what I've read, that might also fix some of the annoying issues here.
