Problems transferring photos from Moto 5GS to Windows

[Android Central Question]

I connect my phone to the computer and tap file transfer. Then, when I open my photos on the desktop computer, the icons do not show 'thumbnail' photos but simply green and yellow 'hills'. When I try to open them, they will not open in Windows viewer (I've downloaded the latest version of Windows photo viewer).
Never had this problem with my previous Moto G4.
Any suggestions as to what I can do?

Welcome to Android Central! Are the photos saved to Internal Storage or an SD card? Are these photos taken by your camera app, or downloaded from somewhere else?

They are saved to internal storage (I do not have an SD card). Photos taken with the camera.

Try using a different USB cable, and make sure you're not using a USB hub connected to the computer.

The photos are still viewable on the phone, correct?

Many thanks for your suggestion - I tried a different connecting cable and it worked. Great.
