problems with note 5 after downloading gear watch apps

i noticed that my note 5 suddenly stopped making sounds (no ring sound with phone call, no sound on alarm, youtube not playing). has anyone else had this problem? i assume it was the gear app downloads that did it but i don't know which one. thanks!
