First thing I would look at is the screen repair. If you have obvious signs of life but no display then that is where I would start.

Possible that it's a faulty replacement screen?

could be, but is there a way to tell if its a faulty screen or a broken display flex?

I jus replaced my screen.....for the second time last night. I had a slightly similar issue in that once all back together my screen wasn't recognizing my touch well. What I did and what I would recommend you try as well is to remove the back cover and disconnect the LCD connector(s). Use a pencil eraser and very gently use the eraser to clean the ribbon cable's contacts. Reinsert them fully into their connector and lock down the lock bar. See if this helps, good luck.
