Hello,
I own a European HTC M8, it is rooted and has a custom recovery installed. To update I flashed the stock recovery, downloaded and installed the update but the phone became stuck at the HTC one screen. I have also tried flashing the new firmware but that didn't update the software at all. I'm also a bit confused because with the getvar all command it says my version-main is 4.16.401.13, but in software information in phone setting it says I'm on version 4.16.401.10. I'm not really sure what I should do to update my phone and because the version number is relatively high (new) it's difficult to find firmware or RUU's. So my question is how to install the stagefright update (I don't care about keeping the data on the device, I'm open to a full stock restore).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unroot. Flash your specific RUU file, get it from HTC site. Update.

I would, but HTC doesn't provide RUUs for the European version and I haven't found the RUU for my current version anywhere else on the internet.

You have the international M8 and im pretty sure you can use the unlocked/developer RUU
And about your software and firmware versions, they will never be the same as the software is the OS and the firmware is for the hardware of the phone

HTC One (M8) - News & download - Support | HTC United States
That link only has the original rom for phones sold in the United States. The one I provided has all, from every country is the world.

Thank you for clarifying the software numbers. Are you sure about the developer RUU, because the software numbers are completely different and I don't want to mess up my phone.

If the only thing that changes are the 2 last numbers, yes. But search on xda if you want

Without being s-off you can not use a RUU version older then what you are currently on

I can't flash roms because I'm not s-off. I have tried nandroid backups but there always seems to be something wrong. Corrupted file md5 mismatch...

you dont have to be s-off to flash roms for the CID of your phone, only for different CIDs or if you want to change the radio. Again, I am not the person to teach you, do as I did, search the XDA forum
