Problems with transferring data from Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830i to laptop

I am trying to transfer data from my GT-S5830i phone to my computer. But everytime I start KIES and connect the phone I get this message "Unable to Connect to GT-S5830i. Failed to retrieve device information" I have tried to troubleshoot and re-install the KIES device driver many times but it still does not work. Please help

Does your device still show on your computer? If you go to "My computer" does your phone appear there? You don't need to use Odin to transfer the files

It does show on My Computer as an icon Removable Disk (G but when I click on it it comes up with "Please insert a disk into Drive G:" Really very strange !! How could that be happening ? Thanks for your prompt reply
