Problems with WiFi or specific apps

So I'm not completely sure where the problem is. But these last few days, Play store, YouTube and Google Drive have been acting weird. I thought at first, that it was my wifi signal, because it works fine when I switch to 4G, but my signal is just fine on wifi, when I test it with speedtest and WiFi analyzer.
Could you help me with troubleshooting? Oh, I have no problems with Netflix or Twitch app.

Welcome to Android Central! Does this persist after rebooting the router? See here for more ideas:

Also, check your router settings to make sure it's set up for both IPv4 and IPv6.

Yeah, still persists after rebooting routers. Now I tried to do a factory reset, and when I came to the part where it wants to download my old apps, during the setup, it said: Login failed - There was a problem with contacting Googles servers. Try again later.

What happens if you try to connect to some other wi-fi network, like at your local library or Starbucks?

I haven't had the chance to try that yet. Now it's been working fine all day, but the Internet feels slow. Even though, both speedtest and wifi analyzer shows full speed. But some apps run really slow, apps I haven't had problems with before. But if I turn wifi off and data on, then the apps works just fine

Okay, I just tested it on my girlfriends phone, same problem. Tested on my iPad, same problem, tested on my brothers WiFi and with my brothers phone, same problem.
What the hell? I have no problems on my iPad, if I use Data instead of WiFi

I may (or may not) be experiencing similar problems, starting yesterday. Very weird issues I can't resolve. Devices: N6P and Nexus 7 2013 wifi only; both on 6.0.1. Issues started on both devices simultaneously:

* Maildroid (MD) app will not contact or sync Gmail over wifi. No problem contacting/auto-syncing Yahoo or Roadrunner email over wifi. When I turn off wifi on the 6P, Gmail syncs in MD immediately over 4G. No 4G on the N7 so I tried the Gmail app - it will contact/sync when prompted, but will not auto-sync even though Settings > Accounts is set for auto-sync. Very, very weird - why only Gmail?

* No push notifications - Bleacher Report, NBA app will not pull push notifications over wifi. Turn wifi off and they immediately pop in over 4G. Apps themselves work fine over wifi. Push notifications are the only problem.

Notes: I haven't installed any new apps before this occurred. I cleared the system cache on the N7 but problem continues. I've confirmed the Gmail Imap settings are correct in MD (and, duh, they work on 4G). No problem syncing Gmail in Thunderbird on a Macbook Pro over same wifi.

Unlike the OP, I have no problem with Play Store, Youtube or any other app over wifi, so I'm not even sure my issue is the same. But it's similar and very puzzling. Not my intention to hijack this thread, but the similarity was such that I didn't want to start a separate one. Any suggestions/help would be appreciated.

Ok, since you tested it on your brother's wi-fi network, we can rule out your router as the issue.

What happens if you go to Settings>Accounts-Google, remove your Google account, then add it back again?

In your case, it would still be worth focusing on your router. Have you been able to test the devices on a different wi-fi network?

Not yet, but I will to see if I can eliminate it as the cause. The problems are so bazaarly isolated that I'll be surprised if it is the router. Macbook and iPad are unaffected and receive gmail just fine. Will report back.

Well, I'll be - it is the router. Both devices worked fine when tested on another wifi network. Router is a Linksys E4200 v1. Problems occur on both 2.4 & 5ghz broadcasts. Have tried simply unplugging and powering it back up but no go. Will google troubleshooting for this router but any suggestions are welcome. Thx.

(Apologies again to the OP for sort-of hijacking your thread.)

Check to see if you can select IPv4 vs IPv6 on the router settings. If only one of them is active, see what happens if you make the other active.

There is no option for IPv4. Only setting is IPv6 - Automatic, set as enabled.

Also use AES encryption, not TKIP or TKIP+AES. (You'll have to forget the connection, then create it again.) Linksys has had a problem with that before (and, since Cisco bought them, they don't seem to care unless you buy carloads of routers from them).

See what happens if you disable IPv6 in the router settings.

Bingo! Problem solved. Really appreciate your help - would've taken a long time stumble into this solution on my own.

Been doing a bit of googling post solution to edgumacate myself on this. I see some Samsungs have this problem, related to a battery management issue. There's also a January 2016 AP article that indicates Google is aware of syncing delay issues on Nexus products. There's speculation in the comments about a possible Doze/IPv6 issue. In my case, since the problem triggered on two devices simultaneously, my totally lay-person guess is an app update common to both devices broke the IPv6 connection. Sadly, I don't recall which apps updated just prior. Again, thanks.
