Profile picture in Google People app and contact widgets

I've spent hours trying to figure this out...
I have a bunch of friends who's profile pictures automatically loaded in the People app.
I don't understand why mine doesn't load on their android devices.
Even Nexus tablets identical to mine.
I've tried uploading my picture to Google+ and Google profile in gmail but it didn't change anything. They only see my picture in Google talk.
So frustrated, please, any hints would be greatly appreciated.
