Profile pictures not showing up in Gtalk?

I have a friend who uses gtalk but doesn't have an android phone. I have manually added a photo of her to my gchat profile. So when I'm on my desktop and hover over her name in chat, it shows the photo I selected. When I'm on my Droid X, it also shows in contacts the profile picture I chose for her. However when I am in an actual chat with her, it doesn't show her picture beside her name and messages. If I click the settings button and view her contact info on my phone, it also shows her picture. So why doesn't it transfer to the actual chats?

Actually, I just noticed it is this way for several of my contacts. I am using Facebook and have it selected to pull contact pictures from facebook if available, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I just don't understand why it doesn't display the picture I manually set up in my contacts.
