Project Fi in New Zealand

Hi, we are going to New Zealand in March, only 11 days. Does anyone have experience with Project Fi in Wellington and the south island? I have a Pixel 2 XL, currently using Cricket. I'm planning on purchasing a month or two of Project Fi or T-Mobile. Not porting my number.

Any problems with this plan or is there a better suggestion?
