When I was looking into getting Project Fi myself I couldn't find anything on people's experiences with the service in Wyoming, so I'm going to try to give a little information.
I've been on Project Fi for about 4 days now in Cheyenne. Early impressions have been very good. I'm on wi-fi most of the time (>90% of the time) so I haven't had to you data very often on the Fi network. When I have had to use it I've gotten very acceptable speeds on LTE. It's not as fast as my Verizon LTE was, but it's fast enough to pull up websites, videos, stream music, and use apps like Yelp and Flixster. I did get kicked down to 3G speeds in a few stores, but that happened with Verizon, too. (Big concrete boxes aren't conducive to cell reception.)
Switching between wi-fi calling and cellular coverage has really impressed me. When I'm on the call and leave the house I never hear a blip in the conversation, and the party on the other end of the line doesn't either. I haven't noticed how many open wi-fi networks I've been connecting to, but I've never noticed calls being dropped or had issues sending or receiving text messages. One pleasant surprise is that ALL of my texts now show up in hangouts in Chrome. I also get incoming call notices before they show up on my phone. This is a nice feature for me, as I spend my weekdays at a desk with my phone on silent.
I ordered a Nexus 6P through Google when I signed up for Project Fi, and it was pretty painless. I used my 6P with my Verizon SIM for a few days and it worked like a charm. When I popped the Fi SIM in and ported the number it took roughly 12 hours for me to be able to receive incoming calls, but I was able to make outgoing calls immediately. My Verizon service was automatically cancelled after the number was ported.
So far I've been very pleased. I'll continue to post updates here as I notice things like open wi-fi networks and any issues I run into.
