Is Protocol Zero worth the $5 price?
Yes. Absolutely!
Try the demo first. See if you like it. At first I didn't. It seemed frustrating to use and I didn't understand. But, once I completed the demo (and figured out how to play) I wanted more.
So far I'm on mission 5 of 20. And its more than I expected. It's more of a strategy game than a "pull the trigger and fire until everything is dead" type of game.
So don't expect to finish each level perfectly the first time. There is some trial-by-error learning you have to do. And you have to be patient and THINK through your options before you make a move.
I wouldn't want an easy game that I can complete in 10 minutes. That's no fun. I much prefer this type of game that really throws some challenging scenarios at you like you might see in a James Bond or Mission Impossible spy movie. Something that will take an hour or more and I'd want to play again to perfect my moves.
That's what Protocol Zero is.
You have to consider your options, take time to watch how the guards move (look through walls and floors with your x-ray vision goggles), and decide a plan of action...
"ok.
- I have 2 armed guards just around this wall marching back and forth.
-And there's a camera hanging up high that I might have to disable unless I can shoot the guy just outside of the camera view.
-But, as soon as I shoot one guard, the other guard will eventually notice and come towards me.
- So I might have just 3 seconds or so before I have to quickly aim and fire at the other guard before he shoots me.
- Should I go around this wall on the left side or the right side?
- Should I shoot the guard closest to me first?
- Should I shoot the furthest guard first while the closer guard has his back to me?
- Should I jump out while both guards have their back to me, shoot the security camera, duck back, wait for the guards to move again, and then jump out and shoot them both or just shoot one at a time?
- So many options!
- Ready! Here we Go!"
The x-ray vision goggles are really awesome and a must use to complete the game without getting too frustrated.
And, I discovered that you can look around a corner just by tilting your head forward, just like real life. Awesome VR touch!
