Purpose of DRM?

I know we all have figured out that DRM and Media Hub are causing major battery drain, but what is the purpose of DRM? What does DRM do and why is it running from start up? If we keep stopping DRM can that cause problems for our Epics in the long run?

Digital Rights Management. Its a type of security. This ensures that media you download from the Media Hub is protected, so you don't reproduce the content. Its CYA for Samsung, and the only way they can bring the Media Hub.

This is why I plan to remove media hub after the release of 2.2. I find the prices to comparable to the ones Sony released on my ps3. Main difference is Samsung's are stuck on my phone and can't be displayed on my TV. Or at least that is what I heard.

Is it just me or is the movies a little out dated? I understand the push for instant download. Samsung should let me know when they feel like they can actually compete against Netflix and Hulu Plus in both content and price. Until then that is one app I will never be running.

The purpose is to slow ours phones down and cause discontent from battery drain and increase returns for those who don't spend a day or two of their life trying to figure out the problem vs return within 30 days and change phones.

I just about did, but think I have my phone manageable - loved it before update, and hopefully have pushed, deleted, and checked enough to love it today again.

Why would a Samsung controled media hub service not be convincing enough for the media companies? Why not install a DRM service on the samsung server to enforce DRM?

I think the DRM service is used to decode local DRM protected media from media hub, for playback purpose.

If you root, yes. If you remove it before your phone may not be able to upgrade to 2.2 without restoring factory settings.

nope, preserve your battery life, kill DRM.

Its ruining my nerves - checking to see if the darn thing is running - so annoying and giving people so many a negative feeling. I'm still not happy to think I have to do this multiple times daily for years since it keeps bouncing back

You only have to kill DRM when you reboot your phone. Other users are reporting that Media Hub restarts each time they turn off Wi-Fi. I haven't checked this myself...I just kill both when I restart my phone and my battery is great.
