My 32 GB nexus 7 has a problem with the screen flashing gray before the lock screen comes up whenever I wake the device, and I occasionally get a thin black line flash across the screen, so I want to exchange or get one without thus problem.

I bought my Nexus through the Play Store, so what is my best option? Should I request a replacement under warranty, or just return it and buy a nexus from a brick and mortar store?

Any input is appreciated,

I don't have any experience with the Google Play Store and hardware, but I have heard mixed feelings towards the process. One thing to consider with brick and mortar stores is that most will let you get a warranty through the store on top of the Google warranty. Some of these also cover accidents that might happen to the device.

Personally, I like to go to stores because I don't have to wait on shipping from Google. If you buy the warranty from the store, you can get it fixed there or they might even just replace it on the spot.

So I guess I should just return it to Google and buy a new one from elsewhere?

Yup. That way if you get another lemon, you can just take it right back :)
