My S2 8.0 arrived today and upon opening the packing and unwrapping it, I said "Wow!" It's a gorgeous device, to be sure. I also have the Tab S 8.4 arriving tomorrow for comparison. What I'm unsure about is which is better and why? If you have both devices, which do you prefer and why? If you had it to do over again, would you still buy the S2 8.0, and why?

For clarity, it is unlikely I would do much video watching unless on Netflix, in a pinch. I got this device primarily for reading, but will surf and do other things as well. I really appreciate your input. Thank you in advance to all who reply.

Oh, there's just no doubt about it whatsoever: I bought the S2 8.0, and I'll sell the S 8.4. Both are certainly competent, but the 16:9 aspect ratio screen is good for ONE THING ONLY: Watching videos recorded in 16:9.

So, if you do nothing else whatsoever than watching 16:9 videos, the 16:9 aspect ratio is PERFECT for you.

But, if you do hardly ANYTHING else, you'll likely find the 4:3 aspect ratio to be far more useful. Stuff like reading, viewing web pages, working with documents, and so on, I think you'll find the 4:3 aspect ratio to be several million times better than the 16:9 aspect ratio.

Simple as that.

Agreed. Thanks for your reply. My 8.4 came in, I charged it and did preliminary setup to test it, and within 15 minutes I was positive it wasn't the device for me. As for the videos, Amazon removes the black bars, unlike Netflix, so they're good to go. Maybe Netflix will get on the stick and remove the black bars for this format, too. Great device and really speedy.

I don't like LP5.1.1, so I really hope we get a better version quickly. If MM is bad then I'll just have to deal. The 8.4 actually appealed to me because of the KK, but it was top-heavy for my needs, even though it had a better screen technically. When I went to wipe it I found out it was already rooted. That's good, but I really like to do my own rooting. Funny though. Guess Best Buy's Geek Squad (certified open box) decided to leave it or didn't know what to do with it.

I upgraded to the S2 from the Tab S. Not only does the Tab S2 run more smoothly but I find it feels more solid in hand. Even wth the white version I find I don't mind watching letterbox versions. I also really appreciate the 32 GB of storage, I kept running low on the Tab S.
