Where is the hidden menu data stored and can it be reset?

I'm trying to reset the hidden menu settings back to defaults, as I seem to have lost the ability to connect to data at 1X or 3G, but have no idea how to go about it. This has left me without any kind of data connection, which is awful.

Any ideas?

UPDATE: For those reading this thread because you have also lost data connectivity, I have solved my issue.

By a recommendation from the IRC channel, I activated a different phone (any phone will do, even a dumb phone), waited a while (I waited a day, just to be safe, but I don't think any delay is needed), then reactivated my Fascinate again. Once I rebooted after activation, the data was all back to normal again. No issues.

Keep in mind, you MUST do a new activation, not simply a *228 opt 1 while the phone is currently activated, as this does not seem to reactivate the data. It must be a new device activation (coming from a different device)

Hope this helps someone avoid the stress I went through.

Sounds like a similar issue to what I had in my "3g problems" thread. That is exactly what Verizon did to fix my problem. Don't know what caused it as I was not playing in those menus.

I lost all external sound after messing around with the *# codes. I reloaded dex 2.1.3 and was able to get all my sounds back without loosing any data or service.

This seems to be a common issue for those who fiddle around with the hidden menu's, particularly in the data settings menu. Odd that resetting it to default didn't work though.

That's what I thought so I was quite certain it wasn't something I did.

I'm glad you fixed yours. I jacked my phone up by just opening the ##DATA# menu post DJ05 install. Luckily I was able to restore using a Nandroid backup.

I'm afraid to even go near those menus. I have hidden menus enabled and I'm wondering if I should have even done that!

Thanks for the suggestion to activate a different phone. I did the same thing as Cory, just looking at ##DATA# (though I'm still on DI01). I didn't try to change any settings. Immediately, I couldn't hold a data connection for more than a few minutes, even though I was not moving and in an area with decent coverage.

I changed the ESN on the website to an old phone, which I didn't even bother to turn on. Changed it back to the Fascinate's ESN about 5 minutes later and reactivating it worked great! Like you said, *228 - 1 had no effect before the ESN swap. One thing to note was that I did have to remove and add back the data plan for the smartphone on the website as part of the activation process. I'm not sure if this makes a difference or not.

Unfortunately, the only Nandroid backup I have was from the day I got the phone, so this saved a lot of time from having to backup and reinstall everything.

Just wondering what IRC channel you found this on?

I enabled them, went in and changed a few settings (gps startup, sound menu, etc) then turned it back off. No need to be in there on a regular basis for me.
