Well, I've had my new Galaxy SIII for exactly a month and it was stolen last night. Unfortunately I am traveling in a foreign country at the moment, so any replacement would have to be negotiated through my parents. Was wondering if the Asurion replacements for Galaxy SIII are new or refurbished.

I am what you might call a power user - very, very social media dependent job - so do NOT want to deal with any problems with a new device. Should I worry about getting a crappy one? Can I make some kind of "please send new" request?

You will most likely get a refurb. My past experience with warranty replacements....I couldn't tell the difference. As for your please send new request.....good luck with that one, it isn't going to happen.

You might get lucky.....but like I said, even if you do get a refurb....you probably won't be able to tell. I went through 7 or 8 Palm Pres.....kept getting the infamous blown speaker....and I couldn't really tell when I got my "new" one sent to me. Only time will tell when you get it!

Since it is such a recent device you might get lucky and get a new one. But even if it's a refurb the phone should be just fine, if it isn't they will send another. There have been people with other phones that after getting a second or third refurb device Asurion finally just send them a new one.

Oh, and yes! It will be replace by the same phone.

Your homeowners/renters insurance can have a 0 deductible rider added to it to cover your phone. It costs a fraction of what Asurion charges and will cover the cost of a new phone. Between what Asurion charges monthly and their replacement deductible they are a complete ripoff IMO. So far as I know you never get a new replacement phone under any circumstances (i.e. replacement under warranty, Asurion replacement) when At&T is the entity replacing it. I've had many refurb replacements over the years and rarely had a problem.
