Question about Apps on Nexus one

I was just watching a piece on MSN video were they said the Nexus one can only have under 200 mbs of apps. is this true? Thats not very much in my book. I have 100 apps on my touch that take up more space then that.

If so can they fix that like Palm did for the Pre?

It's actually 512MB Flash memory for apps.
Plus Google said during the announcement that they are planning to release an update in the future that will allow users to install apps onto the micro SD card, which is expandable up to 32 GB (without having to root your phone of course) This update will be pushed to all handsets that can support it, including the Nexus.

When you look at the apps from Androids Markey place most apps are fairly small.
Another thing to consider is that you have a way faster processor that will be able to process much more data through the cloud if developers do it right, therefor reducing the amount of files that apps required to be stored on your device.

Thanks, true about the speed. I am used to the Itouch and Pre that have 8 and 16 gig of internal memory.

but no expandable Micro SD.

Expandable memory is great because a problem you face if you only have internal is that if the device crashes you have a high chance of losing all your data (music, photos, etc.) if they're not synced.

It also reduces the load on the internal flash memory to make the device more stable.

I agree with you on the SD card, I wish Palm would have made one. It was an issue people were asking about before release of the Pre.

when you look at how far these phones have come we have to appreciate every phone that made choices even if we didn't agree with them. it's about finding what works and improving.

My first "multi-media" phone was a Sony Ericson T300.

We've come a long way from a detachable camera and color screen being a selling point. haha

There is no way to calculate how many apps you can install on the phone since it varies greatly on the size of the app itself futhermore google will be fixes the lack of available memory on the Nexus since there was a kernel limitation but in a future release you will have more memory available.

One of the problems with Android apps are that they are lacking severely in functionality and usability, due to the size restrictions of the internal app storage in Android based phones.

The app developers themselves have said the small size of their apps certainly isn't a feature but a severely limiting roadblock to introduce much better apps, such as the ones on the iPhone.

That's also why with the Nexus One's increased memory, better screen and faster processor still doesn't have many, if any, "better" apps than the iPhone. Yet.
