Question about Buying a New Note Pro

First off, is the $750 asking price for a WiFi/4G LTE version of this tablet too high considering the age of the tablet? It come with 4.4 KitKat but does it upgrade to the latest Lollipop version? Part of the reason I'm considering this tablet is because of my Galaxy Note 5 phone. I love the s-pen feature and this particular tablet also has it and it would be very useful to me at work since I use OneNote quite a bit.

My biggest concern is the age of the tablet and it being past its ability to fully take advantage of OS upgrades. Help me decide please.

You should be able to get one cheaper than that online now.
As for lollipop: People are always desperate to upgrade to the latest operating system but in my opinion, 5.02 does little or nothing and in fact, after various bugs, I went back to 4.4 which is great.

I was actually thinking about Marshmallow and the new features it is bringing. I am more concerned about the hardware and the table's age. I really wish that Samsung had introduced a new tablet this past year that also has the s-pen support.

I totally agree - I really wish that Samsung had introduced a new tablet as successor to the NotePro.
For me it is the best tablet on the market, because I work a lot with the S-Pen and it feels very similar to pen and paper. It is no surprise since Samsung bought a share from wacom for it.

We bought two of these tablets recently: about the hardware I can say, that we are very happy with it. Currently we develop an app (Mind-Objects) for it, which needs a lot of processing power - and the tablet runs it smoothly.
I think your decision to buy such a tablet depends on what you want to do with it - when you really like the pen, I would say it does not matter too much which Android version you are running.

Hope that helps a bit?

I have a Note Pro and didn't get built in 4G so saved money. It easily works as wifi and my Note 2 using it's capability to create a shared service. May not be as convenient as built in but tablet is less expensive and don't have to pay a monthly extra fee to cell phone company. Just have to be on a plan that allows shared data. I'm not a heavy data user so have not had issues with throttling.

The Note Pro tablet is great. A real workhorse. I use it mainly for my business and it never fails me. I work with a lot of people in their homes (investments, insurance etc..) so i need the Internet for my company app. I use my Note 4 phone and hot spot (Verizon) and all works great. I don't like to ask someone I meet for the first time if I can have their WiFi password.
Granted it is an older device but still the best. I work with a bunch of Apple addicts and they're always asking about my tablet. They have a hard time using the same company apps I used on my Note Pro.
As for a replacement I don't think the Galaxy View was meant to replace the Note Pro. I think it was a project gone wrong and Samsung had to do something with a warehouse full of 18" screens. It has old OS, no Spen, basic apps.
Would love to see a 15" screen, no camera, 128gb internal, SD card slot, 4ghz ram, SPen, USB C connector, Android 6.0 or better.

Can no longer call it the best tablet on the market after experiencing the ultra fast tab S2 even if it doesn't have pen function.

Totally understandable, it's all subjective right? . . I'd love to have more responsiveness on this tablet but not at the expense of losing S-Pen support. I take notes on this thing for work on a daily basis.

I agree. I know that there are some better android tablets out there in terms of performance but I really need one with the s-pen ability. This one was recommended to me but I haven't had a chance to check it out yet and see what type of pen it actually means. Has anyone had any experience with this tablet?
Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7" 16GB White SM-T550NZWAXAR - Best Buy

The Galaxy Tab A does not have an S-Pen , it's capacitive touch screen only just like any other phone so only capacitive stylus support. If you need S-pen then a Note is your only option on the Android side, whether it be a 10.1 or Pro.

Edit: See retraction to this comment in post 15 below.

I take that back. You're right, I had no idea they made a variant with true s-pen support. Awesome. (I should have gone to my pc to try the links, they're not redirecting on my tablet at the moment).

Two downsides I see with that tablet are lower resolution screen and only 16gb of internal storage.

Edit: Make that four. . Less RAM and slower CPU to boot.

I think if I lost my Note Pro right now I'd probably consider a Tab A w/ S-Pen as a stop gap measure until it was clear what Samsung is going to do with any future S-Pen enabled tablets.

Sort of . . meaning to say the model that does have the pen seems to be hard to find and only comes in a particular color.

Looking back there was talk of an 8" version but I don't see that available on Amazon . .

This seems to be an odd tablet. I went to the Samsung site to look at information about it and there isn't any mention of the pen that I could find. I guess I'll go to Best Buy this weekend and see if they have one I can check out.

Current upgrade is stable and bugs are not a problem. I have seen it for much less than suggested retail price. Plan to buy another if mine dies. Samsung has not done a better one yet. Speed is not the best but ok.

I would suggest that you don't waste your time on NOTE Pro 12.2 anymore. I've been in contact with Samsung last week and was notified that this device was not going to get any updates, and will be stuck with KitKat 4.4.2. They were very sorry that I was dissappointed with their decision to abandon 1 year old product. Mine is still on warranty and has no future anymore. KitKat is slow and buggy, and has many security issues which are left unfixed - I'm not going to look at samsung products anymore.
