Question about display...

Hey guys,

I'm thinking of switching from an iPhone 6 Plus to a Galaxy S9 but I have a question about the display on the S9. Is the OLED display fused to the digitizer/glass (all one piece) like the iPhones or are they seperate which means there is a air gap between the display and the digitizer/glass? I hope I'm making sense here by how I'm asking this?

I don't see any information on Samsung's site nor am I finding anything by doing a Google search.

Yes it's all one piece, fused using special adhesives. To be my knowledge all phones nowadays use that type of screen to keep weight and thickness down. And considering that some of the iPhone LCDs are bought from Samsung, as well as the iPhone X's screen, I'd expect them to be made the same way.

Re: Question about screen...

Is this for space travel? Haha

This is a serious question, not a joke. I believe Apple refers to this as "fully laminated display", they are also on the higher end iPads. I'm assuming people here know what I'm talking about, it's a pretty known fact.

OK great, not only does it make the display look better, but it keeps dust from ever entering the display area...especially if a device has to be taken apart to replace a battery, etc. Although I believe Samsung phones come apart from the back where as Apple's comes apart from the front. With Apple, screen has to come off first before you can get to the battery, in cases with devices where the display is not fused to the glass, that's where you run into problems if you ever have to have it serviced/taken apart. With the fused displays, this issue is non existent.

Thanks for the quick reply!

The Samsung flagships are better rated at dust resistance than any iPhone lower than 7. Like the iPhone 7, it has the highest level of dust ingress protection available on a phone. You really shouldn't worry.

OK thanks, I just like to get all my info before making a decision, I didn't want to assume, buy it and then not be happy with the display.
