Hello everyone; I have a note 20 ultra that I'm currently using on Verizon which was also purchased through them. I'm planning on paying it off and getting it unlocked once my tax return hits so that I can use it on Google fi. Was wondering though if the updates would come directly from samsung once the phone is unlocked? Thanks in advance to anyone that can help with this.

They never come directly from Samsung with any phone even unlocked purchased directly from them they come from whatever carrier you use.

It will come from that carrier sim that's installed, even if you on the unlocked firmware it still comes from carrier its on just without the bloat

You don't have a Universal Unlocked phone.

Your carrier lied to you.

Carriers don't sell universal Unlocked phones.

If you had a 14 day grace period.
I would of taken the phone back and got my money back.

Try taking your phone to T-Mobile and getting them to put one of their sims in and see if it works.

It tough that a carrier will do stuff like Verizon did to you.

Thats not what OP said. Wants to sim unlock it to use for different carrier.

I got luckier. I had a situation where my phone was virtually paid for if I ordered it through a certain place. The place only had the Note 20 Ultra via Total Wireless. The TW plans certainly weren't terrible but when the phone arrived (dreadfully packed), the paper with the 'you need this number to activate your phone' was unlocked, lol. So, I took it to a cell phone store and found out that it wasn't locked at all. All Total Wireless did was to chuck in a Sim card. I switched carriers. Boost Mobile has been okay so far, my only gripe being that allegedly one can't totally disable voicemail.

I wish the OP luck. Unlocking a phone looks like a PITA.
