Hi,

I'm about to buy a phone and I'm not sure if I want to buy the X or the Droid 2. One of the things I'm confused about is the HDMI out on the Droid X and I am having trouble finding a straight answer.

Simply put, will I be able to put downloaded .avi files on my Droid X's SD Card and play them back to my TV using an HDMI cable? I have read conflicting information about 1) whether playing Divx is possible and 2) whether you can play stuff from your SD Card or if you have to load it onto the phone to play using HDMI out.

There are several things about the Droid X which make me hesitate (in descending order of importance: the locked bootloader, the size, and the lack of physical keyboard), but if I can load Divx movies onto it to play back on my TV, I'd be willing to overlook all of this as the Droid 2 does not have this capability.

Thanks.

Yes, anything you can load onto the SD card that is not DRM protected will be able to be played via HDMI. I don't use DIVX as a general rule so I can't comment other than to say that there are plenty of programs that can convert various formats to MP4 which seems to be universally supported.
