Lets say my phone gets lost and I file a claim and pay my deductible and get a new phone.
What if said lost phone turns up at a later point? Does the EIN get blacklisted and then only good for replacement parts? or could it be reactivated at some point if you decide to keep it as a backup incase something happens to another phone on your acct?

Your supposed to return the lost phone but the ESN is still clean if its filed as lost, its blacklisted if filed as stolen

Not so sure about this...I think if they send you a replacement (whether lost or stolen) they blacklist the ESN. This would only make sense. This avoids the unscrupulous types who would say they lost their phone, got a replacement for $100 and sold their "lost" phone on ebay or craigslist for $300.

I've seen this done before. Not exactly sure how lost phone are handled, but I know some have done this, found their phone, and sold it to someone else using Sprint with no problems.

I'm not advocating insurance fraud, but I'm also not saying it doesn't exist. I think most people here along with myself would advise against doing this no matter which side you are on (buying or selling).

It takes a small amount of time for the insurance company to put the ESN on the Lost / Stolen List. IF Asurion puts it on the list Sprint is not supposed to activate it at all.
If a device is lost and you call and tell them that and DONT file a claim with Asurion they put a note with the ESN to contact you if the ESN is called in to try to help you recover the phone.
If its Stolen and not filed with Asurion a note is attached to the ESN with the local PD contact info and report number to help track down a possible stolen device.
I think the people who file a claim then try to make a quick buck on craigs list or sell to a "friend" might be able to activate it because the paperwork takes a little time to go from customer to Asurion and back to Sprint.
I also hope they get caught and are charged financially for it. That type of fraud makes us pay higher fees for such insurance.
There are 2 lists, Lost and Stolen. Stolen is Blacklist. Lost can still be activated once the original owner is contacted and the matter has been cleared up. Lost is more of a temporary restriction that can be lifted. Stolen i think is more permanent.

I figured that was the case. Was always curious how that works. Most people who lose things, later find them in very strange places.

Very true...We had a dude in the Army who shoved a cell phone up his ass (don't ask why, as I doubt anyone will ever really know) and couldn't get it back out. He passed out in formation one morning after it had been wedged up there for a couple of weeks and was taken to the ER...They figured it out after an hour or so...Dude didn't tell them either. Embarrassment is a mother ****er. I wonder if he had filed a claim for a lost one?

You dont actually believe that huge load of bs they feed you do you?
All your doing is regurgitating propaganda.

Do some research on the subject the insurance companies are the real thieves not some dude trying to get a free phone for his buddy. Im not saying its right just that it doesnt quite have the effect on their bottom line they would like you to believe.

Think about it, say you pay 10 for six months then a 150 for a ded. for a smart phone. theres 210 you really think they are paying that for reconditioned handsets from the mfg.? they turn a profit every time they do business with you, period.

lol sorry dont meant to rant

I totally agree insurance is a rip-off based solely on the numbers of people they get. $7.00 a pop, per month, and say 1,000,000 people buying the insurance. Out of the 1,000,000 people, figure 5000 (1 in 200 is the REAL number they use to bank on...google it) cell phone claims a month. 5,000 cell phones (we'll use a retail price of $700.00) at $700.00 = $3,500,000.00. Insurance pockets $3,500,000.00. Now, figure in real costs of the phone for the insurance company with their refurbished units, deductibles, and real numbers of claims, and the profit margin is even higher.

LOL either way i dont care. I dont pay for insurance. I think its crap as well. As far as propaganda goes if people didnt do that it wouldnt give them the excuse to say it. I folow the rules and get screwed by the people who dont, thats how i see it. But since i dont pay for insurance and repair my own devices i am not really affected by that.
I hate the ones who root their phones and rack up 10+ gigs a month and then cause the carriers to put caps on them or charge for additional fees for everybody.

If someone buys it, they buy it...I was just pointing out what the "experts" say about it. I'm rabid when it comes to ANY insurance. It's just another way to screw people. I'd open my own insurance company if there wasn't so expensive to get into.

Just curious, but what about GSM phones? Couldn't they just sell the "lost" phone, and someone puts their own sim card in without the carrier knowing?
