i'm really new to the android world as i was a long time bb user...and before anyone decides to yell at me i did search and came up empty handed. i know of 2 sms apps (handcent and sms chomp) but i was wondering which one everyone was using if one at all. i have sms chomp right now because i had handcent for a few hours and was noticing a few bugs. is there maybe another one that i havent mentioned that is good also? Thanks in advance for your comments.

i've tried them both and like chomp better, it seems to run smoother and i don't need all that much from my sms app.

i like the htc version as well but liked the bubbles and skinnability of chomp.

Using the native with SMS Popup. I only use SMS for alert paging though (server down stuff) rather than communication with other users.

I have been using handcent, but I haven't tried Chomp yet. I'll give it a try.

I really miss BB Messenger though.

whats so great about other messaging apps over the stock one?

customization, the general look, and some people like the pop up notification (personally i don't and absolutely love the way android handles notifications)

There have been some reviews of Chomp since the recent update, it has been glitchy.

Anyone who uses this care to comment?

Just started using Chomp this morning - no issues so far. I like how customizeable it is, but not that it is ad-supported. That bugs me for some reason. If I continue to like it, I'll probably pay for the pro version.

Hands down Handcent is the best. The customization is awesome per user. I don't like the default settings. lot of the nice features aren't on by default. for the record, I have never had Handcent crash on me.

I used to have a storm, then the eris, and went back to the storm (cause i dropped the eris and screen shattered, not broke, shattered). When I had the eris I did try both the Handcent and Chomp and when i got the inc the first thing i did was download handcent 'cause it's only one that would allow for notification while on a phone call (why it's not included w/ stock sms...idk). As far as everything else, I found Chomp to b easier and more eye candy but notification while on call is very important to me.

IDK if Chomp has included this option now, but few months back, when i had the eris, they didn't.
