Question about pedometer tracking

Hopefully someone here with a Gear 2 Neo can answer this... I've been looking at both the Neo and the Fit and have found more reviews on the Fit and they all seem to say that a downside of the pedometer is that you have to actively enable it in order to track steps... Is that the same with the Neo or does it calculate steps automatically throughout the day (like a Fitbit) without having to do anything to start it.

If you do have to enable it, is it just something you do in the morning and then it stays on or does it stop counting at some point (and what triggers it to stop?)

I have the Neo and all i have to do is in the morning just start the pedometer and it will keep track all day long. But you do have to manually start it each day.

I dont have to start mine, it keeps going and I never stop it. I wonder why mine behaves different form your's?

Does starting a run/cycle override it? So if I'm calorie tracking a run and there are 1500 steps, will these be present on the pedometer count as well?

I have a Neo and found this to be odd with needing to start the pedometer. As long as you start the pedometer say on a Monday morning, you will not have to restart it each day unless you stop the pedometer manually. The pedometer resets itself back to 0 each day. If you start an exercise, it will not stop the pedometer (at least in my case)

awesome.. thanks for the replies everyone. I'm OK with starting it everyday (or just once as some people have said) - I just didn't want to have to start it every time I got up out of my chair. Has anyone compared it to the Fit and if that works the same way? The impression I got was you had to keep starting it.

I'm split on whether to go Neo or Fit - I wear a Fitbit Flex now Tried the Force but got the rash) and like it, I don't necessarily "need" all of the extra features of the Neo - I primarily want it for the heart rate sensor while cycling but if I'm paying $200 I'll be wearing it all the time as opposed to being just a bike accessory. I'm sure I'll use most of the functions of a smart watch when I have one though and wonder how I got by without it before.

I'm not thrilled with the look of the Fit, I think its a little too shiny and attention grabbing for me, the Neo is nice but also looks like a watch so I think I'll get less "whats that on your arm?" questions.

I turn my watch off each day and charge it. My cat like to chew on my watches when I sleep with them on. That might be why I have to start mine each day. As per the fit I just didn't like the way the band closed I feel like it should have a locking claps like the watches.

Yeah my pedometer stays on when I start it and resets the count when a new day starts. The problem I'm running into is the amount of steps it counts. I just ran 4.76 miles according to my GPS on my phone using RunKeeper app, but my Neo shows that I ran 7.45 miles according to the pedometer. This is unsatisfactory, there must be some way to calibrate this thing.

I have the same issue, the fit is counting much more steps than i am actually doing. Has anyone found a way to calibrate it by any chance?

I just got my neo and the design is sexy to me...while the curved screen is kinda cool I think the neo looks nicer over all.

and as far as the pedo goes, mine has been running since yesterday...no need to manually restart it.

The only way to "calibrate" the distance seems to be to change your height. I have seen one report of having to reduce the height from his 6' 2" to around 5' 6". The height is used to estimate the stride length .. this can obviously be markedly different for people of the same height.
