Question about picture storage on phone vs card.

When I go into my stock gallery app it shows the individual folders with icons. The icons are the SD card icon and a folder icon. I recently went into the My Files app and moved all my pictures to the SD card. But my question is when I move them is it making a copy or is moving them from the phone and deleting them from that storage. Just looking at the icons it would suggest that they are stored on both. Hopefully that makes sense.

Already tired that. Even force stopped the app and cleared cache.

When you move your pictures from the phones internal storage sdcard to removable storage extsdcard they are no longer stored in the phones internal storage, you will still have access to all of your pictures through the gallery app.

You are probably seeing thumbnails in gallery, not the actual pictures. Might need to delete the cache. Clear the thumbnails folder on your phone? It is under DCIM but it is a hidden folder, so from MyFiles you will have to change the settings to display hidden files.

Thank you. That is what I wanted to know.

I have already cleared the cache for the actual gallery app. I will it under the DCIM portion also. Thank you.

mrtwohands,
You may want to reconfigure the Camera app to automatically save any new pictures to the SD card while you're at it.

And given the problems that the S3 has had with SD cards you may want to consider something like Cloud Drive: http://market.android.com/details?id=com.amazon.clouddrive.photos just to be on the safe side.

Yeah I have it set up to where it should automatically save them to the SD drive. But that is why I was wondering why it showed a folder and an SD card icon on all my gallery folders. I'll have to look into that cloud drive for sure. Thank you!

With the link you gave me. Is everything about it free?

It's free to store up to 5GB. Obviously you need an Amazon account.

The storage situation is weird between internal memory and the SD card, which I guess is why Google is pushing manufacturers to ditch SD card storage. (Off topic, but when 64GB is the standard offering by manufacturers, THEN I'll jump on that bandwagon.) Some things only get saved to internal memory (ex. screenshots, burst mode pictures, etc.) and I manually move them to the SD card so in the Gallery app I end up with two folders named 'Screenshots' - oh well.
