Can I use my Samsung or Motorola quick charger with this and still get quick charge, or do I have to only use the one in the box?

Sorry nope. Google's using a 5V / 3A charger to achieve faster charging in the new Nexuses, rather than using the Quick Charge tech like you'll find in modern Motorola, Samsung and LG phones. Quick Charge is usually a 9V / 1.67A charger, or thereabouts, which won't trigger the faster charging on the Nexuses.

Chances are this is (at least in part) a licensing issue. Qualcomm charges companies to license its charging technology, and Google is always hesitant to use proprietary tech like that in a Nexus.

There's also the other thing to note of the fact that it uses USB-C, which gave Google options for how it wanted to do faster charging.
