Question about radios

I am rooted and I am using the non VZW/HTC Gingerbread ROM. I have been in the middle of a lot of personal stuff, so I haven't had any time to try other ROMs.
So far, no issues, but I noticed in different locations I have been at (I just moved from one 4g city to another) that my T-Bolt will go from no signal to 3g/4g and sometimes 1X.
Since this was happened to two different locations, and ruling out my apt building's location might be causing it. I was wondering if it might be my radios.
Did I need to update the radios using the non-VZW Gbread ROM, or was this not necessary?
I wanted to rule this out.
This is the ROM I'm using:

Thanks.

Could be the ROM... if it's not been tested and tweaked properly with your Radio... by the way, you did not mention what radio you have... Settings > About phone > look around for the long numbers that are under Baseband version.

That is the latest Radio... and it's been working just fine for me with several ROMs including BAMF Forever 1.0.9, CM7.1.1, and Liquid Smooth 3.1. I'm in a 4G area and have traveled to a couple other 4G areas.

Ok, thanks. I will test it around town tomorrow.
I need to use other ROMs.

I've noticied with these new radios that when i'm on the fringe of a 4G area, I will not pick up 4G nor will it bounce back and forth from 3G to 4G. I'm assuming Verizon turned up the settings for when the radio will activate 4G so that we don't get consistent dropping of 4G. The previous LTE radio version ("802" I believe) allowed this.

So are you in a strong 4G area or on a 4G fringe area?

Edit** If your losing 4G, 3G, & 1X then it just might be the occasional 4G System Upgrading (outages) Verizon calls it.
