Question about the HTC method for hboot 1.5

If I use the HTC method to unlock my hboot 1.5 EVO 3D, does that render my phone useless? If I only use the HTC method to unlock, can I boot right back into the phone and use it as normal? I'm wanting to root it so I can use wifi tether when I go on the roads for the holidays. But I am not wanting to do it all at once. I'd like to do it in steps like so:

1. Use the HTC method to unlock (maybe tonight)
2. Perform the rooting process (this weekend)
3. Install, configure, and use WiFi tether (this weekend)

I just want to make sure my phone will still be usable after the HTC unlock method. Thank you!

Using the htc unlock doesn't change your phone's functionality at all, excrpt tou can flash ROMs. After I unlocked, it was a couole if weeks before U added my custom ROM and everything worked fine....

Ok, thanks! That's what I thought, but I just wanted some confirmation. I assume you did this: HTC unlock method--->custom recovery--->custom ROM?
