Can't a cellphone with a non-removeable battery just have the battery replaced when it's caput?
I did that with my wife's iPhone. Well, the store did.
My note 4 I just swap batteries and those don't hold good charge anymore.
I've ordered the Note 8.
But all of this commotion over the battery not lasting but a few years...
Isn't it replaceable at the store when it stops holding a charge?
We don't have to just go get a new unit.

It can be replaced but usually requires going to a store to pay someone to do it. That is why people like just getting a spare and swapping themselves. Less hassle.

Watch enough YouTube videos and you can do it yourself. That's what I did for some Motorola phones for my mother and sister in law.

Most people don't want to do that so.. That is where they like removable for quick changes.

For me personally... I change phones usually every year (and that is stretching it -- usually I upgrade every few months) so I don't have to really worry about it.

Phones with non-removable batteries can have them replaced. You can do it yourself or have a repair shop do it for you. A good compromise is to buy the battery off e-bay or Amazon and take it to the repair shop. That way you can get the battery for a decent price and only pay for the labor.

here's my concern... I live and work remotely, which means it is a small town to the nth degree. there will be no repair shops within a 45 min drive, which then means I have to send it off. this is why I'm concerned. if something can go wrong it will and I'll be sitting here in bufu back on my N4 while I wait for the repair. a swappable battery that I can have shipped from ammy is so much better in my circumstance. I loved my N7 and that didn't go well at all, though I never had a second's problem with the battery in the month or so I had it. two years? now that's a different story.

I've had my Note 5 for 2 years. No battery problems. I'm not worried about swapping batteries ever. I never did in my S5 I had for a year and I could have.

Take care of your battery and it won't degrade much over 2, even 3 years.

Leaving your phone plugged into a charger for long periods of time is bad, it stresses the battery, I've never charged my phones over night.

Letting your phone die before you plug it in, is bad for the batteries health.

Using your phone while charging, adds more stress to the battery because it will generate more heat. You can call/text, but you shouldn't be playing games while it's plugged in.

These are the rules I follow, I've never replaced a battery. Note 5 since launch day is fine, S7 is too. Heck my Note 3 that I still use around the home for a media player is on its original battery from 2013.

that's encouraging. I had three OEM batteries go bad, which is why I say "if something can go wrong it will." I'm the one in the store that gets in the short line that immediately becomes the longest and slowest line and everyone else will have gone except the person in front of me. and everyone behind me is sooooooo bummed and I can't help them because I'm bummed too. so a battery going down on me? easy and quick. passed a 9mm kidney stone (2 surgeries) just last month. I'm made of luck. :D

I generally agree but my note 5 has been on the charger overnight almost every night for the last 2 years and my battery is still fine

the non removable battery crowd kills me. you will buy a new phone before you ever need a new battery

I have a Samsung Galaxy tab 3 (got it in 2013 or 2012) Its been used almost daily and is my 4 yr old daughter's equivalent to a daily driver phone. The battery is just now starting to show significant wear. That after my daughter for the last 2yrs have been running it to 0% daily charging it back to 100 and running it back to 0 again. My note tablet 10.1 (2012) is similar however that showed battery deterioration about 2yrs ago but still runs for a couple hours sot.
