Hey all,

I'm a Moto Z owner that has been hating it for about 3 months now. I'm looking for an opening to buy either an XL or a XL2 later this year but wanted to see how your devices have been holding up 10 months after it was released? I'm hoping they are doing better than my Moto and could be an indicator of if buying a near year told phone would be a bad move.

At this point I can either buy a pixel XL knowing that it's almost a year old and about to be replaced (which means better pricing) but I run the risk of it not lasting as long, at least 18 months from purchase is my threshold. This is where I need your input.

Alternatively I can buy a new XL2 when it comes out, which is newer and is alleged to have an active display (one of the only moto features I use consistently) but it's more expensive and I worry about it being an LG phone, mostly because they don't tend to hold up very long. HTC on the other hand, I've heard makes excellent hardware.

Priority is battery life and longevity. Thoughts opinions? Are you as OG owners eager to replace yours with the 2nd gen, or would you be confident it would last another 18 months?

Thanks!

I've been using the Pixel XL since release day and it's the best phone I have ever owned. I've never factory reset the device and it's just as fast and smooth as the day I bought it. I would have no concerns about it lasting another 18 months. That being said, I will be upgrading to the Pixel 2 as soon as it's released... mainly because my job pays for my phones and service and I get to upgrade annually. But if the recent leaks are true, I'm really looking forward to the much smaller bezels and the return of dual front facing speakers, which was my biggest gripe with this phone after coming from a Moto X pure edition. In my opinion, add front facing speakers and IP68 and this is the absolute perfect device. If you decide to go the less expensive route and buy the first gen Pixel, you won't be disappointed. Hope that helps!

How is the battery life doing? I hate battery anxiety, "if I play this game, I might not make it through the day" and such. I remember reading the XL was pretty enduring on the daily.

Battery life, for me, is still excellent. I usually have no problem at all making it from the time I unplug at about 6:30am until the time I plug back in at around 11:30pm. Now, I'm not a gamer so I don't know how that would impact battery life. I pretty much use the phone for calls, texts, email, Facebook, browsing the web, etc. Occasional video from YouTube and Netflix. I'm on Verizon and get terrible cell signal in my office, so that can drain it a bit, but that's true of any phone.

It's working near flawlessly for me. It's the best phone I've ever used. I gave the S8 a try but it was a bit laggy compared to the Pixel. The Pixel does a great job with everything I need it to do: Good display, great camera, great consistent performance, prompt updates. I just don't like the excessive bezel. I can't wait for the newer models with the small bezels.

By far the best device I've ever had. Just as snappy as the day I got it last December. Love the prompt updates.

Battery life is good.

Personally unless one of my devices is plagued by a rogue application as long as I get around 1% of drain per hour on standby or less I don't worry about battery life. Going full tilt in a game with CPU at max a device is gonna use whatever it needs to and the only thing we can control is brightness to mitigate battery usage while playing. All that said, the Pixel XL gives me great battery life. I'm the type of person that tops off frequently though, not one who recharges when battery runs low. I like to keep my battery north of 50% and carry an external battery in my bag on long days out to keep things topped off.

I have a pixel and pixel Xl. Both are awesome and no issues. I've also had an s8 plus and htc u11. The u11 is the only phone I can say is just all around better. If you're buying, I'd go u11

Unless you're on Verizon. Then you should avoid the U11 at all costs. Both Pixels work seemlessly with Verizon though.

Hands down the best Android phone I've ever had! Smooth and glitch free for me. Battery life is good too.

Performance is the same as day 1, that's one good thing about Google's devices.

Love the phone and would buy again today. Smooth as butter like day 1. LG makes great products and outside of the V10/G5 and prior phones they have been super solid.

I am guessing it's your original statement that either brought up LG for no reason and seemed to imply that LG made the Pixel's.
Read the OP's original post. He questioned the Pixel 2 due to the concerns he had with LG's quality.

I get it now. It just seemed more like a response to someone else and not the OP, or just confusion over the manufacturer since LG has done several phones for Google.
