Question - Leaving on Wireless Charger All Day a Problem?

I'm currently using a GPE M8, which is a beautiful phone. However, I still kind of miss my Nexus 5. One of my biggest issues was the battery life. I could typically make it through the day, but I needed to either charge it a little in the afternoon or leave it alone for awhile so I didn't kill the battery. The GPE M8 has much better battery life. If I was to get a Nexus 5 again, I'd like to get a wireless charger that I could use at work. I work in an office and would be able to basically let it sit there all day not using any battery. Would it, or could it, cause any issues with the battery if I left it there on the wireless charger everyday while at work?

I've had my Nexus 5 since Launch back in November... Shortly after in November I bought two of the TYLT wireless chargers.. One for work and one for the house... I have not plugged my phone up to charge in months... I exclusively use wireless charging only.. I usually throw it on the one at the house around 9 or 10 at night and it stays on the charger all night... At work I usually throw it on shortly after lunch and leave it until I go home so that I am certain it has a full charge just in case I go after work later than expected..

That being said I have not noticed any different in battery life from when I first started using the wireless charger until today... It still will easily get me through a full day without having to worry too much about charging it up... Not the greatest battery life overall but still plenty enough...

Thanks for the response. I'm still thinking about what I want to do, but that eases my mind if I decide to go back to the Nexus 5. It is really nice not having to worry about my battery life with the M8.

I did/do the same, it causes no battery issues. One caveat though: depending on the charger you use (I used several) it may generate a fair amount of heat which can cause the letters on the back to become loose and detach.

What makes you want to come back to the Nexus 5?

I really like the GPE M8. But it feels so fragile. Like anything is going to damage it. I didn't feel that way with the Nexus. Don't know why. Also, the camera is much better on the Nexus. The only real issues I had were light bleed and battery life.

Leaving the N5 on a wireless charger won't hurt it nor should it make any difference in battery longevity. Mine is always on the charger when I am home... on the weekends, that can be a really long time sometimes. When the battery reaches full charge and it just provides a trickle, there is no warmth, either.

I absolutely love wireless charging now and every phone I have from this point on will have to have the feature. It is just way too convenient.

at least with the TYLT charger and the Nexus charger (I had the Nexus charger before the TYLT) I've never experienced any heating up issues and mine probably spends 10 hours a day plus on a wireless charger.. mostly while I sleep at night...

I can't decide if I want to go back or not. It would save me a couple hundred bucks, too. But my wife is getting a little annoyed with my constant switching. Went from N5 to GPE M8. Then sold the M8 because I needed some extra cash and went back to an N5. Finances changed, so I went back to the GPE M8. But now I'm missing the N5 again. It doesn't have the screen or the sound quality of the M8. Or SD storage (which is nice for movies, shows, and music). But it just has something that keeps drawing me back in. Especially at that price. The only issues I ever had with the Nexus 5 was the battery life not being great (but it did easily make it through a day in Disney by turning off data sync) and light bleed which was noticeable even in decent lighting. I think if I could guarantee that I would get one without light bleed, I'd go back.

I'd like to see GPE Note 3 or 4...... I've been looking into getting a second hand Note 3 to check out the size but I am not 100% certain I want all the touch wiz feathers and I am not 100% sure I want to go back to rooting and manually keeping up with and switching ROM's like I did in the past..

I love my Nexus 5 but your right the long term battery life isn't the best.... Roaming around Six Flags here in Texas for the day usually kills it down to almost nothing without really making it to bedtime... or well it easily last if I either don't use it or power it off for an hour or two while at the park (Which is kind of pointless) I usually keep the GPS/location and WiFi off unless I need either one... I noticed the GPS/Location services really drained my battery.... but I loved the Google now cards with things going on around you.... so turning that off is kind of besides the point too..

would have been nice to at least have a removable back/battery on the device... I had two batteries for my GS3 just for going out somewhere that I wouldn't have easy access to a power outlet..

Or you can carry an external battery pack for those occasions you know you will need more power... they aren't that much bigger, heavier, or more expensive than carrying a spare internal battery. Not quite as convenient (since you have to plug it in and carry a small cable) but you also don't have to reboot, don't have to open anything and risk damage, can charge it easily from any USB cable, and it can also be used to power/charge any USB device...

Acts as a flash light when needed and can give you a quick boost of power.... Don't really like the battery cases... The added bulk/weight is not desirable as an every day usage item... but could be something to have when you KNOW your going to be out a while... Usually I'll plug my phone up in the car on the ride to the park to make sure when I get out of the car I am at or near 100% battery....

So many options to go with.... Just a minor annoyance (and part of owning a smart phone) when it comes to battery life...

One of the guys I work with has a Nexus 5 and uses this exclusively; 1 at work and 2 at his house. He has had it for several weeks and has not had the device explode or overheat on him.
