Question regarding Samsung Kies 3

Hello, I just switched from a Galaxy S5 to the Note 4. Last night I downloaded Samsung Kies 3 and did a back up of everything for the S5, my question is if I hook up my Note 4 will I be able to load the Kies back up of the S5 onto the Note 4? I mainly want to get the notes/memos and calendar. Also, I thought I had my contacts set to sync with my Google account but when I logged in only 3 contacts came across, luckily I was still at the AT&T store and the rep hooked up both phones and was able to sync the contacts, any idea how I can sync all my contacts with my Google account so I don't run into this again. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have!

Unfortunately the Kies backup (stupidly, IMHO) only restores backups to the exact same device. That is, if you back up the S5 not only does it have to restore to an S5, it's gotta be THE SAME S5 (you can imagine the frustration when you back up for a warranty replacement and you can't restore to that).

Are you sure any new contacts were saved to Google and not to the device? If you log into your Google account on a web browser, are all of your contacts there?

If the "missing" contacts aren't Google contacts, there's a fix to the brilliant idea Google had to not let us edit the Type (Google, Device, SIM).

Install MyPhoneExplorer and sync the phone to the PC end of the app.

Go to Contacts in the app, Go to View (in the main menu at the top) and view the contacts that aren't Google. (If you have both Device and SIM contacts, you'll have to do it onc for each, or you can view all and try to keep track of what you're doing.)

Select a contact. Copy it (Ctrl-C). Ctrl-V will open a window - in which you can change the type to Google. Save it. When you have Google versions of all those contacts, select them all (select the first one, shift-click the last one) and delete.

Then sync your contacts from the program to the phone. (If you're brave, take the phone off the air - no wifi, no mobile data, delete all your contacts, they sync with MyPhoneExplorer. When you turn on wifi or movile data again, the phone will sync with Google.)

Let's hope Google figures out what century it is soon and eliminates SIM contacts (that was useful when the SIM card was the only way to transfer contacts from one phone to another without expensive equipment) and lets us edit the Type field.

Thanks for the replies, that's too bad about Kies, I did a search for backing up my S5 and from what I read this would do the trick. Unfortunately I traded the phone in at AT&T (on the Next program) and the rep restored it to factory in front of me so that I knew it was done so all those notes and text messages are lost.

With the contacts, I originally went from iPhone 5 to the Galaxy S5 and used Samsung's software Smart Switch and it brought over everything (I was actually pretty impressed how good of a job it did). I thought I had made the correct selections to save all contacts to my Google account but it didn't and from Rukbat's post it may not and will have to use a 3rd party to do so. Like I said the rep wanted to make sure my contacts came over before we restored the S5, luckily he thought of that because they didn't so he hooked both phones up to a device and it copied all my contact over. I may just take some time tomorrow and log into my gmail account and manually enter them so that I know they are in there... as well as a bunch of calendar events that didn't copy over (still have my iPhone 5 with the events so I'll have to look at that and enter them). If your 'missing' contacts are on your new phone but not on the Google account, you can easily import them without having to download anything or manually entering information. Just go into your Contacts app, tap the menu button and select MOVE DEVICE CONTACTS TO, and it should let you copy them to your Google account.
