I read that someone was able to use their Samsung phone to link their tablet to use the 3g internet. Is there a guide on how to do this or is it more complicated then that?

I do this daily. Just as long as your carrier allows data tethering, you're good. Rogers Wireless in Canada allows this at no extra charge.
You simply hit a toggle.
