Questions about rooting my Droid X

Im new to android. I've checked out the threads about rooting and if im correct it can be different with every phone and I haven't been able to find any info Droid X specific. So anyone that has rooted their Droid X, I have a few questions.

I'm somewhat interested in the advantages of rooting. But im concerned on what consequences it might have. Will it void my warranty? If it does will I be able to revert so it doesn't void my warranty? Also I've read froyo has been delayed and will be coming soon. If I root will I be able to update to 2.2 when it does come out? Are there any other consequences to rooting the Droid X?

Any replies are much appreciated and I apologize if I overlooked anything that could have answered my questions.

please use the search function of the thread. like 'igotsanevo4g' posted, that is on the blog which is extremely helpful. i have also copied that blog post and turned it into a stickied thread in this section of the forum (hacking section). there is a lot of great info to read and understand about rooting.
