I hope this is the right place for this, I didn't see a place specifically for rooting. Anyway here goes. I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 and I've been looking around a little about rooting it, I don't have alot of experience with it but what I've seen about it doesn't make it look too difficult. I was just wondering if anyone had any reliable information on the matter, maybe where to get the files. I found OneClickRoot, but I'm not sure about it. My phone specs are..

Model Nunber: SCH-R760
Android Version: 2.3.6
Build Number: Gingerbread.xarfI24
Hardware Version: R760.01

Any help would be much appreciated!

I would really suggest looking at some rooting videos for your device. You are taking a big step in a new realm of the OS, and you can easily get lost, confused, etc. I would watch 2 or even 3 different videos from different people, take notes, and watch each video multiple times.

Couple of counter questions:
1. Why do you want to root? I am not trying to convince you not to do it. Just curious.

2. Is this your primary device?

Yes this is my current device, but it isnt hooked up, and honestly im not sure if I can even get service with it anymore since Alltell went down. I want to root it to get the new android version, I was hoping it would jail break it so i can use it somewhere else but that's not the case right? I've been watching videos as well i've just heard alot about breaking the phone in the process as well. So just asking for advice I guess.

You can root it to install a custom recovery. That will allow flashing a custom ROM. Just be careful. Only flash ROMs for your specific model number.
