Questions about Thunderbolt Email

I recently started a job with a new employer running a Microsoft Exchange mail server. I have been able to successfully get the mail server up and running on my Thunderbolt so that I can send, receive, and organize company emails. However, my Thunderbolt has failed to download my employer's global contact list. In the People app, it shows "Microsoft Exchange (0)," indicating that it knows I am connected to an exchange account, but hasn't pulled down my contacts. Can this be fixed?

Also, now that I'm using the stock email app for Exchange, I thought I'd add my Gmail account to the stock app (as opposed to using the dedicated Gmail one. Is it true that Gmail won't push mail to the stock app?

Finally, is there a third party email app that might alleviate either of these two issues? That is, either download contacts from Exchange properly or receive push Gmail messages AND Exchange messages?

I believe I've read that the TBolt Standard email app does not support MS Exchange "Global Contact Lists". However, I believe some third party one's do. Hopefully someone will chime in here. Otherwise, check out the Market.

Goggle's/Gmail's "Push" technology is not an Internet standard. None of the standard email apps will support Gmail's "Push". You have to use Google's/Gmail's client-side app (Gmail client) to accomplish Push.

I figured Gmail push only worked with the official app, but it's nice to get confirmation.

After playing some more, I figured out that I could perform a search on my employer's contact directory in the People app under the online directories tab. I can find anyone I search for in this way, and subsequently save them to People, where they appear under the "Exchange Activesync" label. This is sufficient for my needs, but I wonder if there isn't a way to import the entire contact list so that it's always available on my phone. Right now, I can only find needed email addresses by searching in People (they are not available in my email program for example).

The GAL is not synced. Your phone will sync your personal contact list from Exchange. You can, however, lookup items in the GAL by searching for a name in your contacts and choosing to search the company directory.

There are server-side tools that can sync copies of public Exchange data to your personal Exchange contacts which would then sync to your phone. You'd need to speak to your IT department to see if they have anything like that implemented currently.
