Questions about Unlocked S8 Plus

Hello, I'm in Canada, and I bought a used Samsung S8 Plus over the weekend. I love it, and so far, it's great. However, it always makes me nervous buying a used phone. I believe the phone was originally a Telus phone - I came to that conclusion because the "My Telus" app can't be uninstalled, only disabled. I am on the Bell network. I read that you can verify the original carrier by checking the "Service Provider SW ver" option, which I seem to be missing. I'm also missing wifi-calling, and I don't have any security updates past Aug. 1, 2018.

I've owned an S8+ before, and I don't recall any of these being an issue on it. I bought that one used as well. Granted, maybe it originated from Bell, so it worked normally for me.

Can anyone provide any insight as to whether this is even an issue? I find it strange that I don't have any security updated, and it's now October.

Thank you!

Nick

Depends on the carrier whether or not unlocked phones will be allowed to access WiFi Calling, so maybe Bell doesn't support that. Also, as far as updates go, don't expect regular monthly security updates on a Samsung phone, and even more on one that's over a year old. You can check the current update for the phone on your region if you think it's Telus, but I think August is still a pretty recent update with Samsung's track record (the Note 9 is still on September patch).
