Hey everyone

I have bought a used Verizon pixel 2 xl from eBay. I had a few questions

1) Will it get free unlimited Google photos? Or it is only for the original owner?
2) As a TMO customer with a Verizon phone and a second owner, will I get warranty support from Verizon or Google?

Thanks!
Nilesh

Pretty sure that the free photo storage is linked to the device

I'm not sure if the warranty carries over but if it does I'm pretty positive Verizon is out of the picture. Google would be your option if they honor warranties on resales.
You should be able to chat with them directly on your phone through the help and support section in your settings.

Did you purchase a unlocked Verizon model to work with GSM networks? I've searched all over and can never get a clear answer as to if Verizon pixel 2s are sim unlocked to work with GSM networks and will get all the updates as devices purchased directly from Google.

I haven't received the phone yet. it's on the way. but from what I found out, except for the fact that the bootloader is locked on the Verizon version, everything is exactly the same and any sim should work on it. Can confirm on Saturday.

If the phone is free from any charges at Verizon you'll be able to have Verizon unlock it for you.

Verizon does lock their phones now for a period of time but my understanding is when it's purchased it's unlocked within so many days to discourage theft and fraud

They don't unlock the bootloader as far as I know....are you referring to carrier unlocked?

Not sure if that applies to Verizon simmed version purchased directly from Google because there have been people who bought those and used them on other carriers immediately

The "temporary" carrier lock is something new with Verizon. Although their phones were (by agreement with the FCC) carrier unlocked, their new theory is that by carrier locking phones, supposedly until after their sale or activation, it will discourage fraud and theft.

Verizon's new policy could certainly be problematical for those who buy a Verizon model, hypothetically the Pixel 3 series, and perhaps find they are unable to use it on a different carrier until they have first activated it with Verizon. I do not know this for a fact, and am just guessing as Verizon has been unclear about exactly what a buyer will have to do to get their Verizon phone carrier unlocked.

As for the Verizon bootloader, as always, it will be locked.

I get what you're saying but the OP is concerned with Pixel 2.

Hey I got the phone and my TMO sim works just fine out of the box. They are all sim unlocked. It has 8.1 and the April patch but I can't be sure if there is any delay in getting updates compared to the unlocked model, but I really doubt it.

I spoke to Google support from the phone and they told me the phone is under warranty and will be supported by Google, if anything goes wrong.

As to Google photos, I don't think I got unlimited photo backup but I am not sure exactly where to look to confirm. It still says that I can upload original photo size up to my Google drive limit. Compressed are unlimited but that's true for everyone.

Okay that's good to hear, let us know if you get the May security patch later next month while you have your tmo sim installed. Many thanks for the update
