Quick question (sound profile)

I'm new to Android, so this may be an Android problem, or HTC problem, or DNA problem. Quite simply: My sound profile automatically changes. I've never used sounds on my phones, other than playing music/videos/alarm clock, so I want it to be on silent. However, it keeps automatically changing itself to vibrate mode. Is there a solution to this or what? Sorry if this is a known issue/easy solution, again, I am new to Android from Apple. I've also had my mobile data turn itself off on its own as well. Are these just hiccups or is there a solution?
