Something happened to my computer and basically I can't get Internet. I was wondering if I could root my s3 without the use of my Internet on my computer. So I would basically download all the zip files, attachments, and Odin. Then plug my phone into my computer and transfer them over. Then from there I would root.
It's okay to let me know that it's a dumb Idea. I just thought it would maybe work. Thanks guys.

I don't see why it wouldn't work. The only issue I see is if something doesn't go right and you do brick your phone, you might be stuck until you have Internet access on your computer.

That's what I'm terrified of. I actually made a minor mistake and when I thought I rooted u didn't so my phone was freezing like crazy. But I did a factory reset and solved the problem. I guess I wanted to know if it may work before I start doing stupid stuff and potentially hurting my phone. Thanks for the respond by the way.

To answer the initial question, yes you can. You can use a WiFi tethering app to do it but you would need to root your device to get it to work.

That being said, I agree with what was said above that you should probably wait and be safe about it. Don't want to have an expensive paper weight :).

Ok I've been trying to do this but when I open Oden then attempt to select a pdf file which would be the link I downloaded in the xda forum. It doesn't do anything. It just opens a bunch of other files that don't do anything.... What am I doing wrong?

You shouldn't be using a PDF file for flashing that won't do anything. Follow Cyber Warrior guides in the stickies and you should be good. ODIN only flashes zip files so if you flashing anything besides a .zip or. tar it won't work.

^ listen to this guy. He knows what he speaks of.

Make sure you are only checking the PDA field in Odin. Do NOT select phone. But just to be sure. Follow the guides. They will help you out tremendously
