I'm about to buy a class 10 16 gig sd card. I'm think I'm going to go ahead and copy everything on my current sd card to it and use it my Droid X until I get my Bionic. I have 2 questions:

1. Do I need to format the card (using the phone to format) before I ever use it, or can I just copy my current cards data to it and pop it in the phone?

2. When I first put it in the Bionic, do I need to reformat it again, or can I just stick it in the new [phone as is and go?

I don't think its necessary to format the sd cards but you might as well do it anyways, it only takes a few minutes.

When switching it from device to device I would definately format it so you start with a clean slate for the new filesystem.

I went from a 2gb to 32gb card. I simply used a card reader to copy the data over to my new card using my pc then popped it back in.

Some apps are designed to have you pull your card out and just pop it into your new phone by allowing you to export your settings to your SD card and then import them (or also as a backup).

I pulled my 16GB SD card from my Storm 2 to my Charge the week I had it and it did not require any formating. The charge took it just like a computer would read it.

So your Music and Videos ported over with the SD Card?

I don't see why music and video would be a problem. android for one doesn't require the media file to be in a specific folder. The android os will scan the card and the file will just show up in your gallery, video player, or music player. If it were me I would delete everything else like apps and data installed on the card from the previous phone. That data wouldn't do any good anyway. It's not like you can reuse it. In fact, if I can help it I don't even like titanium backups when using a different type of rom. Weird things can happen sometimes and it is easy to blame the problems on the new rom itself.

I had some movies that did not come over and some Microsoft Office stuff that I had backed up on my P.C that would not come over...

Not sure but maybe the movie format/codec was not supported natively by android. I know I had that happen before. But I found a video player app in the market that would play those formats.

I remember that app was call Rock Player or something similiar.

Not sure it it will make a difference but just to make sure I want a class 10 card. The one you linked to is a class 4

Does any one know the difference between Class 10 and Class 4 32GB MicroSd?

Never Mind I found it!!!

Class 2 : H.264 video recording, MPEG-4, MPEG-2 video recording
Class 4: MEPG-2 (HDTV) video recording, digital still camera (DSC) consecutive photo shooting
Class 6: Mega-pixel DSC consecutive photo shooting, professional video camera
Class 10: Full HD video recording, HD still picture consecutive shooting

Well what you researched likely is correct but the class rating is normally a representation of sustained write throughput.

A class 2 is 2MB/s, class 4 is 4MB/s.........class 10 is 10MB/s

I bought a 16GB - 10 class a while back for my phone for a premium price so I could write files quickly to my sd card.

Edit: to add from my experience I got the best write speeds when I took the card out of the phone and connected it directly to a card reader. It seems going through the phone slows it down. This happen on a Samsung omnia i-910 windows mobile and my original droid. Direct from card reader was a bit faster.
