Quick Settings App - APN Data?

on the quick settings app you can toggle on/off mobile data 2 ways. One button is just the generic mobile data and the other one says mobile data (APN) and on that one you can choose to turn off data but leave mms on and "restore preferred apn" what does the difference between the 2?

I was wondering this myself. There's a little message that pops up that says "use what works best for you." I've only used the non-APN one and it seems to work fine.
