Ive been having an issue with my download speeds since buying my nexus- my 3g is slow to unusable alot. I live in a 3g only area and running speed tests on average Ill get about 200-350 kbps download speeds with 2-3 bars of 3g but my upload speed will be 500-850 kbps. Sometimes my speeds will kick up to about 450-550 but average is 250 and sometimes it wil be ridiculously slow like 50-100kbps. I know speed tests arent everything but I believe mine are representative of the problem. When my speed tests are really in the dirt around 100 google music is pretty much unusable, when the speeds are in the 250 range google music takes about 20 sec to start a song but then works alright after that, it will stutter every once in a while which is pretty annoying. Also webpges are slow to load sometime painfully slow, and they are simple webpages like espn mobile which my omnia 2 would load at an acceptable speed. Overall my 3g sucks and I always have a minimum 2 bars. My signal strength will say -93 2 asu at 2 bars, -83 4 asu at 3 bars and at 4 bars -75 (i dont remeber asu at 4 bars). I rana speedtest a few minutes ago and got 87kbps download 542 kbps upload with 4 BARS.

Im confused by this issue especially how can I get a download speed that is so much lower than my upload speeds especially on a mobile network. It doesnt make sense with what i know about internet connections (I dont really know a ton but enough to know this doesnt make sense) and Ive never experienced this issue before. Ive heard people on the signal stregnth threads saying they consistently get 700kbps on 3g.
So what do you guys think on this issue. Anyone else experiencing this same problem as me?? maybe in ventura county ca where I live. Maybe I got a Lemon and should return it???

Ill post some screen shots in 2nd post

Here you definitely see the issue in the 2nd screenshot 3 bars of 3G signal is -83 4 asu and I get 67 KBPS download while upload is 1 MBPS!!!! I thoguht mobile networks were known for getting much better download speeds than upload speeds.
And on the rest of the screenshots you can see the upload speed is almost always double the download speed if not more. In the 3rd screenshot you can see my radio kicked into "OverDrive" and I got 1 test at 560 kbps down and 804 up. In the screenshots where you see really high speeds like 2200 kbps thats where I forgot to turn off my wifi. Im wondering if I have a defective radio or if someone else is getting this issue too.

My first night with the phone, I downloaded an 8.65Mb app that took over 10 min to download with 2-3 bars of 3g. Need to try another app and see if it's a problem.

Overall, I'm happy with the phone and ICS (except no NFL app) but I would like understand the issue. If the radio is truely that slow, and it can't be addressed with software, I will have to return the phone.

if your new to verizon 3g then i'm sorry to say that this can be very typical of 3g speeds on this carrier. i too had only 3g before getting a 4g phone in a new 4g area. before this 4g phone i experienced pretty much as well. when i'd get 1000kbps i thought i'd hit the bandwith jackpot :) 3g on verizon and sprint is very slow compared to at&t and t-mobile's 3g. there are some updates coming for this phone so don't get too discouraged yet. there may be a fix that will help, but again, don't expect too much.

First let me say I absolutely love my phone. Ive had verizon for a long time and I had an omnia 2 WM 6.5.5 before getting my Nexus. With my omnia 2 I could load an espn mobile webpage very quickly. With my galaxy nexus in the exact same location, the same webpage can load just as quick as before Or a lot of times load very slowly, Thats when I go for the speedtest and see these results. I mean sub 100 kbps down at the same time as 450-850 kbps up w/ 3 bars Come On. With my omnia 2 I could tether verizons 3g and watch live NFL, I havent tried with my Nexus but I dont thinks it gonna happen. And my wifes Sprint Optimus S POS playing google music takes 10-15 seconds to stream a song then works flawlessly. Mine can take 10 sec or it can take 30 sec and then stutter to the point of almost being unusable and all with 3 bars of reception. Thats why Im trying to see if anybody else has had an issue like this or if I may have just gotten a lemon. Whats really weird to me and like yuou were saying if verizons 3g can be slow why is the upload speed so much greater then the down speed??

I think that the Nexus, in some areas apparently, has very poor 3G reception and performance. I don't know why. My tests comparing the true signal of the Nexus to other Verizon phones in 3G show that the Nexus lags way behind in reception. Usually 10-20dBm less (or 2-3 bars, roughly).

It's a serious problem for me. I have 5 other friends that have the exact same problem as me, so I know it's not just my phone.

Strange, I found my 3g speeds to be the same on my rezound.. Slow.. Lol but it was to be expected from a cdma network.. Not as low as sprint though.. They were terrible...

Wow, what kind of friends do you have? You have 5 friends with the Verizon Galaxy Nexus? I'm the only one of my close friends that even has an LTE phone let alone a Verizon Galaxy Nexus.

There could easily be more than 1 bad phone.
